Choosing an Antiaging Foundation For Oily Skin

The common concern of women who are over forty is finding a good foundation for oily skin that works as an anti-wrinkle skin care product at the same time. That’s literally trying to hit two birds with one stone. In general, I find it more practical to buy cosmetics that have 2 to 3 functions in one.

It’s just a lot more efficient and cost-effective when you’re trying to target several multiple skin problems at the same time. In this case, oily skin and the signs of aging.

The problem with oily skin is that it needs extra care especially if you have a moderate to severe acne problem.

Aside from this, excess oil gives makeup that runny look, so you have to reapply your foundation several times a day. But, the tendency of having too much foundation on is that it settles on fine lines and make wrinkles look far more obvious.

Essential Ingredients In Your Foundation

Although I have dry skin myself, I advise others with oily skin to buy cosmetic products that contain these essential ingredients:

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is currently one of the best pimple busters available and what it can do for your skin is rather impressive. Its benefits come two-fold. First up, it exfoliates and helps your skin to shed dead cells and grow new ones. Second, the exfoliating action removes dirt and excess sebum trapped within your pores. It does wonders for preventing clogged pores and new pimples from forming.

Retinol

Retinol is present in almost any skin care product out there because of its ability to penetrate deeply into the skin, thus, making it an effective wrinkle-eraser. It’s also very gentle on oily and sensitive skin. However, most cosmetics that claim to have this anti-aging ingredient do not have enough Retinol content to warrant significant results. If you have wrinkles and fine lines that are more pronounced, I still think that it is better to use a separate anti-wrinkle serum that is more potent.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is quite popular these days and a lot of skincare products utilize this ingredient. Why is jojoba oil hopeful with oily or combination skin? This natural product is easily absorbed and is excellent for preventing moisture loss in the skin. That way, your oil glands will not try to overcompensate and the result is less oily skin. Jojoba oil is also great for helping to rejuvenate the skin and to smooth out your wrinkles.

Further Advice

It’s always important to thoroughly cleanse your skin first before putting on any sort of foundation. The reason?
Applying foundation on top of greasy and dirty skin can cause further skin irritation, plus the makeup will just look a lot better if it has a clean base to sit on.

Consider Mineral Makeup

Mineral makeup just tends to sit a lot better and is particularly good for people with oily skin. It doesn’t clog the pores and if you’re dealing with acne problems, and additional benefit is that it contains zinc oxide which is known for its anti-inflammatory and healing properties. A small minority of women who use mineral makeup tend to develop skin allergies though, so that’s the drawback.

Personal Recommendations

One of the beauty products I recommend you try is Revlon’s “Age Defying Make-Up”. It comes in different formulas for different skin types and is particularly effective for mature women who have normal to oily skin. Its ingredients not only prevent the skin from drying out, but contain Revlon’s patented "Botafirm" formula that firms the skin and drastically reduces visible lines on your face. Now, I don’t know if the latter is as true as the product claims, but it definitely works well for blending away your imperfections and provides very good coverage.
